DOD Watch Statement on Pituffik Space Base Commander’s Remarks

WASHINGTON – DOD Watch, an organization dedicated to exposing radical policies within the Department of Defense, DOD Watch, issued the following statement after Col. Susan Meyers, commander of Pituffik Space Base in Greenland, sent an email distancing the installation from Vice President JD Vance’s remarks during his recent visit.

"DOD Watch stands with the Department of Defense in reaffirming the fundamental principle of civilian control over the military. Col. Susan Meyers’ decision to publicly distance Pituffik Space Base from Vice President Vance’s comments was inappropriate and undermines the unity and chain of command essential to military readiness. Our service members are duty-bound to execute the lawful directives of elected leadership, not to editorialize or contradict them in official communications.

“Vice President Vance’s visit to Greenland correctly emphasized the strategic importance of the Arctic and the need for enhanced U.S. presence in the face of rising threats from adversaries like China and Russia. The military must speak with one voice, especially in front of allies and partners. At a time when unity and strength are more vital than ever, personal political commentary from commanders only creates confusion and weakens our posture.”
